Story of a Classic: The 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air
A Tradition Passed Down
For some collectors, the passion starts with a single spark. For others, it’s something passed down like a family tradition. In this edition of our Story of a Classic series, we spotlight a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air whose story spans three generations of car lovers. Finished in Sierra Gold and Adobe Beige and outfitted with rare factory power options, this Bel Air isn’t just a standout on the show field, it’s a symbol of family and lifelong enthusiasm. At just 22-years-old, its owner is already helping shape the future of the classic car hobby, proving that timeless cars continue to inspire new generations.

Q: How did you get started collecting classic vehicles?
Cole: My journey into the hobby started very young. My Grandpa (who we all call Poppy) built a 1938 Chevy Sedan from the frame up. As a kid, I went to car shows with my family and that car, and those memories stuck with me. He even made me a custom-painted pedal car, which really sealed the deal. Going to shows became a family tradition, so eventually it felt natural that I’d own a classic of my own. Now, at 22 years old, three generations attend car shows together: my grandfather, my father, and me.
Q: What drew you to this specific make and model?
Cole: The color and the style drew me in immediately. The 1956 Chevy has always been a personal favorite. It’s a truly timeless classic.
Q: What makes your vehicle unique?
Cole: This Bel Air stands out because it came from the factory equipped with power windows, power steering, power brakes, and even a power front bench seat. Those features really elevate the driving experience and make it something special.
Q: Do you attend shows with this vehicle? Has it won any awards?
Cole: I attend multiple shows, always with great family and friends. While awards are nice, the real reward is the experience itself. The laughter, stories, and good times shared at every show are what make this hobby so meaningful to me.
Q: What is your favorite element of being part of the collector vehicle community?
Cole: The people, hands down. “Car show” people quickly become like family. The sense of camaraderie and shared passion is unlike anything else.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like us to know?
Cole: After getting involved in the car hobby, I started the Trenton Krazy Kruzers Car Club with the help of my family. It’s a nonprofit organization that hosts the Trenton Alumni Weekend Car Show and Trenton Cruise Nights, along with multiple community events throughout the year in Trenton, Missouri. Giving back to the community through this hobby has been incredibly rewarding.
