What You Can Do Right Away

Encountering a loss to your home or your car can be unsettling but there are things you can do to help secure the scene and record the damage. Here are a few recommended steps to take:

  • Call 911 for emergency assistance if needed.
  • Take steps to prevent further damage (i.e. putting a bucket under a leaking pipe).
  • Take photos of the scene and the damage.
  • Exchange insurance and contact information with anyone involved or witnesses to the accident or loss.
